Synopsis - Life's Lottery. 26 Chapters, BOOK COMPLETE

Kate emigrates to Australia in the sixties with three of her children. Leaving behind the ugly memory of abuse against two of them, by her second husband. Having successfully settled in Sydney she meets up with an American friend of the family who is on leave from Singapore. They fall in love and within a short period he returns to Australia to be with Kate. She is cautious, so they live together for quite some time before getting married. He then gets a job further north, and after what she thought was a successful move he unexpectantly turns violent.

Kate endures months of humiliation and cruelty then the final blow comes when her sixteen year old daughter announces that she wants to return to the U.K. as she can no longer endure the behaviour of her mother's partner. Finally Kate who turns out her violent husband, manages to secure two jobs in order to survive. A very dear friend makes sure that Kate's children are well cared for. Kate proves to be a very popular barmaid at the local tennis club. A handsome witty Australian called Peter takes a shine to Kate, but she keeps him at arms length for months, but persistence however, is his middle name! Kate finally gives in, and invites him to a barbeque to celebrate a new home and new life.

A long wolf whistle penetrates the air as she emerges. Turning around she found Peter standing on the threshold of her lounge with an arm full of red roses. She said rather rather embarrassingly "So you found your way?" "Anywhere that leads to you I could find" he said as he thrust the flowers at her. The warm sultry air wrapped itself around Kate as she sat with Peter beside the garden pool. The outdoor lights twinkled their reflection on the water. The dark blue sky with the Southern Cross shining like diamonds and the sparkle of the champagne bubbles danced in the glass that Peter had just poured. He raised his glass saying 'To you... the most beautiful women in the world'. Kate could have burst into tears, for it was the kindest most sincere statement she had heard in years.

Six months into this tender love affair, Kate finds herself pregnant, but before it's confirmed Peter suddenly disappears.

His daughter was his living image, with all the kindness and caring that had been his trademark. Years later their daughter finally tracks her father down, and Kate meets a very elderly Pete, the outcome of which is most surprising!
